DCR CUTLER PARK TRAIL CARE DAY The 2004 National Trails Day event on June 5th in the
Charles River Reservation Cutler Park included volunteers from the AMC,
REI, NEMBA, BSA Troop 49, PTC, and DCR Trailwatch. The three main projects
for the day were digging post holes for trail signs, installing bog bridges,
and digging drainage channels. Drainage work was completed to get standing
water off the utility service road that is used as a section of walking
trail. Run-off from I-95/Rt. 128 had collected in several spots on the
service road making it nearly impassible. Other pictures show volunteers moving extra sections
of older boardwalk/bog bridges into a section of trail that had become
quite muddy.
Cutler Park is a 670 acre property bounded by the Charles River and portions of Dedham and Needham. The riding is generally easy, with plenty of smooth and fun singletrack trails. NEMBA’s Mellow Ride Series often pays a visit to Cutler Park for it’s high fun factor!
